In accordance with the document, "Policy on Policies," 'Policies that apply to the operation of a division or departments may not conflict with university-wide policy, but may be more restrictive.' We can further elucidate the principle in what follows:
- Defined University Policies
- a. Newer university policy statements take precedence over older university policy.
- b. Defined university policies take precedent over defined school/administrative unit and department/division policies regardless of the date of the university policy.
- Defined School Policies
- a. Newer school/administrative unit policy statements take precedence over older school/administrative unit policies.
- b. If a university policy/administrative statement is not available, then the school/administrative unit or department/division may define one.
- c. Defined school policies take precedent over defined department/division policies regardless of the date of the school policy.
- Defined Department Policies
- a. Newer department/division policy statements take precedence over older department/division statements.
- b. If a university or school policy statement is not available, then the department/division may define one.
- c. Defined school/administrative unit policies take precedent over defined department/division policies regardless of the date of the school policy.
