Details:

All accidents involving personal injury and/or property damage/loss either on campus or at any campus programs located off site shall be reported to the Director of Risk Management and Public Safety. This includes traffic accidents, criminal activity, or serious bodily injury/property damage. An "Incident" is defined as any event which is not consistent with the routine of the University, and may be an accident or a situation which might result in an accident.

Automobile Accidents While on University Business

Employees involved in vehicle accidents or incidents while on official University business shall file a vehicle accident/incident report with the Director of Risk Management within 24 hours of the employees return to campus. The employees supervisor shall also be responsible for completing a report.

Employee Accidents

Employees who are injured or become ill in the course of performing their duties shall immediately report the injury or illness to their supervisor. An incident report must be completed by the injured employee or his/her supervisor and given to the University Police before the end of the shift on the day of injury. The Director of Risk Management and Public Safety and the immediate supervisor will conduct a follow up investigation. All claims must be reported to the insurance carrier within 24 hours. Incident report forms may be obtained from University Police.

Student and Visitor Accidents

Faculty and staff responsible for activities, equipment, facilities, programs and services shall initially report all accidents resulting in personal injury to students and/or visitors which occur either on campus (i.e. classrooms, laboratories) or off site at campus programs (i.e. field trips) to the University Police within 24 hours.

Emergency Care

If the services of medical personnel are needed, 911 should be called. The Student Health Center, located within the DiSepio Institute is primarily a student service, but in the event of an emergency its personnel may be consulted.

Employee Accident Prevention

Protective equipment such as hard hats, goggles, clothing, shoes, gloves, etc. must be worn by any employee performing a job that requires such protection. Rules governing the proper use and care of equipment and machinery should be followed by all employees. All hazardous conditions such as snow and ice-covered steps and sidewalks, wet hallways and entrances, cracked or broken steps and walks should be reported to the Physical Plant.
