Placement is determined by the successful completion of specific math courses with a grade of "C" or better. 1. MATH 107 - College Algebra: Students who have not passed Algebra 2 with a grade of "C" or better will be placed in MATH 107 College Algebra. 2. MATH 110 - Precalculus: Students who have passed Algebra 2 with a grade of "C" or better but have not passed Geometry or Trigonometry/Precalculus with a grade of "C" or better will be placed in MATH 110 Precalculus. 3. Amendment MATH 112/MATH 121 - Calculus I: Students who have passed Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry/Precalculus with a grade of "C" or better will be placed in MATH 121 Calculus I. Verification of Placement: All placements will be verified through official high school transcripts. Mathematics faculty teaching MATH 112 and 121 will assess student readiness by the end of the first week as a safeguard. Any students deemed not ready will work with CAS for scheduling of new math class, MATH107 or MATH110. Appeals: Students who believe their placement does not reflect their preparedness may appeal to the Testing Center. Students may take a placement exam or CLEP exam. Support: All students will have access to additional academic support services, including tutoring and supplemental instruction, to ensure they are prepared for subsequent math courses. This policy aims to place students in courses that best align with their academic history, supporting their success in university-level math courses. Current Students: Faculty advisors are expected to converse with any advisees intending on enrolling in Math 112 or 121 on their math preparedness, especially trigonometry. |
