Information on Commuter Life at SFU

Details:

As a commuting student, know that SFU provides many programs and services specifically for you! Whether you're coming from home or on your way back home, SFU is your official home away from home and we're glad you came!

Meals

Commuters and off-campus students are invited to dine in Torvian Dining Hall by purchasing a meal plan from the Office of Residence Life in Padua Hall. If students prefer to brown bag their meals, they are welcome to eat in Frankie's Campus Club at the JFK Student Center, Padua Express (lower Padua Hall), or Adamucci's Café (lower Schwab Hall), where snacks, sandwiches, soups, salads, beverages, and other refreshments are also available.

Lounges

The John F. Kennedy Student Center is available for students to pass the time and lounge areas can also be found between Padua and Sullivan Halls for some respite for commuter students between classes and other breaks during the day.

Representation

If you have any concerns or suggestions related to Commuter Life, please contact or stop by the Student Government Association Office in JFK or email them at sga@francis.edu  Or contact the official SGA Senator for Commuters. NOTE: All weekly SGA meetings are open to all students, so stop in and contribute to the discussion!

Emergencies at Home

If there is an emergency at home, family members should contact the Office of Student Development at (814) 472-3002 in order to get in touch with the student. Please provide family members with the phone number for this office.

Commuter Tips

Take full advantage of the SFU experience by getting involved on campus. Here are a few tips to help you maximize your experience at Saint Francis:

  • Get involved! There are over 80 recognized clubs, organizations, club sports, and Greek Life organizations. Each September the Center for Student Engagement holds its annual Student Involvement Fair where all the organizations will present their information and ways to get involved. Stop by the Center for Student Engagement (upper JFK) to see a full listing of clubs, organizations, and other opportunities.
  • Attend campus events! Check campus bulletin boards, emails, social media, and the online student life calendar on Engage to stay up-to-date!
  • Get involved with the Student Activities Organization (SAO) the primary events and activities coordinators here at SFU!  The SAO is located in the lower level of the JFK Student Center and can be emailed at sao@francis.edu.
  • Come hang out in the JFK Center complete with comfy furniture to relax in style between classes!
  • Sign-up for intramural sports competitions!
  • Take advantage of DiSepio's fitness room and group exercise classes! Visit Stokes Athletic Centers indoor running track, swimming pool, or the racquetball court.
  • Study at the University Library and Learning Commons!
  • Attend home (and select away) Division I sporting events and support your Red Flash!
  • Make plenty of contacts during Orientation with other commuters to share rides, information, and make new friends!

For other information or for assistance, contact the Center for Student Engagement at 814-472-3005 or email them at studentlife@francis.edu.
