Description/Purpose:

General Principles Governing Tenure

Details:

A. Membership on the faculty is no guarantee of tenure. The responsibility for demonstrating a high level of teaching effectiveness, professional growth, and compliance with the other criteria listed herein lies with the individual faculty member.

B. Tenure normally implies the right of a faculty member to continuous reappointment until retirement.

C. Tenure eligibility extends to all tenure-track faculty: lay, clerical, and religious.

D. Faculty at the rank of instructor, adjunct faculty, and visiting faculty are not eligible for tenure.

E. Sabbatical leaves, leaves of absence, and health-related leaves are not considered to be an interruption in service. However, such leaves are not counted toward the minimum four years of service at Saint Francis University.

F. The tenure clock may be stopped by the approval of the Chief Academic Officer for a period of one year, with a maximum of two one-year stoppages allowable. Such stoppages are not considered to be a forfeiture of the right to apply for tenure.

G. Any faculty member who does not apply for tenure or is not eligible for tenure in the last probationary year forfeits the right to tenure, but the faculty member may continue to be employed in a non-tenured status.
