Description/Purpose:

Pets on University Property

Details:

The intent of this policy is to maintain the University as a productive and clean environment in which to learn, study, work, and visit.

Although Saint Francis is known as the patron saint of animals and his love for creation is appreciated, the presence of pets in classrooms and work areas can be disruptive as well as unsanitary; as they may compromise the health of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This policy applies to all faculty, staff, and students at all times and in all internal University locations (including, but not limited to offices, laboratories, athletic facilities, housing, and classrooms).

Faculty, staff, and students are prohibited from bringing pets into any building, including, but not limited to, classrooms, work areas, and housing. Dogs walked on campus must be kept on a leash and picked up after.

This policy does not apply to service animals used as a disability-aid or animals associated with research.

Pets found in residence halls or other buildings will be removed by the University Police.

Questions regarding this policy may be directed to the Director of Risk Management and Public Safety at ext. 3884.
